Crestar’s inaugural virtual dance concert, Christmas At Home
January 13, 2022
Rousing music, colourful costumes, mesmerising digital backdrops and sleek moves must have brought many Crestar dance students and their parents to their feet cheering. After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Crestar School of Dance’s annual concert was back– for students and their parents to watch it live in the comfort of their homes.
The inaugural virtual dance concert, ‘Christmas at Home 2021’ featured 16 performances and was pre-recorded at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre before it was streamed online on boxing day, 26 December 2022.
Its eclectic repertoire performed by 200 students, with the support of their teachers, was designed to showcase Crestar’s young talents’ achievements in
Ballet, Hip Hop, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Belly Dance.
A Message of Love, Joy & Hope
Kicking off the programme was the cheerful and light-hearted ballet ‘Jocund Caurousel March’ delivered to the tune of ‘Stars and Stripes Forever’ by Arthur Fielder to bring on the Christmas cheers. This was followed by 10 other ballet performances, four Hip Hop items, one Rhythmic Gymnastics and a belly dance spectacular.
The performances were choreographed to express the joy of Christmas, exuberance of the season, success, personal growth, family togetherness, and hope.
Aptly wrapping up the package of Christmas dance delights was the finale performance of ‘Dazzling Christmas’, a belly dance featuring ‘angels’ dance with beautiful illuminated fan veils as wings, lighting up the night to the uplifting rendition of ‘Beethovan Virus’ – perhaps, to chase away the other virus!
A Concert with a Cause
Held in conjunction with the Concert, was ‘A heART of Giving’, a charity outreach effort in partnership with Singapore Children’s Society (SCS). The initiative was started with the intention to champion the appreciation of arts towards an inclusive society. In the spirit of Christmas, Crestar’s art students drew their own art pieces and made them available for sale to raise funds for children under SCS’ wing. The initiative surpassed its donation target of $3,000 where a total of $3,580 was raised.
To mark the return of the concert and the spirit of giving, all parents were offered an e-voucher valid till 31 March 2022 for a complimentary trial class for their children and 15% discount off Swensen’s Christmas log cakes for a limited time.
