Singapore Groove: A Vibrant Dance Concert Celebrating Heritage, Diversity, and Creativity

On 23 November 2025, Crestar School of Dance presented an exhilarating dance concert – Singapore Groove – at Gateway Theatre. This year’s production commemorated Singapore’s 60th year of independence, reflecting the nation’s journey from kampongs to skylines through the art of dance.

Unlike the previous two years, which featured a storyline, this year’s concert was theme-based, offering audiences a fresh creative approach. Teachers and students began preparing for the concert in March this year, dedicating months of effort to perfect their performances.

The concert featured 20 dynamic performances across genres such as ballet, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, and rhythmic gymnastics. Over 250 dancers from our four centres came together to showcase Singapore’s cultural heritage and modern identity. From the youngest dancer at just 5 years old to the oldest at an inspiring 78 years old, the concert highlighted the incredible range of talent within our community.

Audiences were treated to vibrant costumes and choreography that paid homage to our rich traditions. Echoes of Heritage in Bloom and Nyonya Memoirs featured our dancers in Nyonya kebayas. Following closely, Our Colours, Our Harmony showcased costumes that represented racial harmony, such as the cheongsam, baju kurung, and sari, reflecting Singapore’s diversity.

Several performances such as It’s Singapura Showtime and This Island, Our Home even included dances set to beloved National Day songs, evoking pride and unity.

Through stunning visuals, music, and movement, Singapore Groove captured the heartbeat of our nation—its resilience, creativity, and cultural harmony—while highlighting the artistic growth of our dancers.
